History

It all started back in 1922 with the visit of the powerful healing preacher Smith Wigglesworth.

After a series of miracle-loaded meetings in the Town Hall, during which hundreds came to Christ, our church was formed as the “Pentecostal Church of New Zealand”.

In the early 1950s contact was made with the Elim Churches of Great Britain and consequently, they sent out a Pastor Dunk and his wife to lead the church. The Elim Churches were birthed out of the Welsh Revival and from the ministry of the Jeffrey brothers. Pastor Dunk led the Church for twenty years during which other Elim Churches around New Zealand were planted.

The church has had a number of faithful pastors in the following years.
Pastors Mike & Jeannie Knott led the Church for 25 years seeing significant growth, building and ministries developed and influence in Wellington and throughout the globe.
In 2012 Ric & Marissa Knott took over as lead Pastors while also shifting the culture of Christian music thanks to the band Magnify.
And since 2021, Pastors Boyd and Sharon Ratnaraja have been senior leaders of our Elim Wellington, but they also lead our national movement Elim NZ.
